Pikes Peak International Hill Climb

I just spent Father’s Day on America’s Mountain shooting some of the best drivers in the world for Mobil 1. This was my third time on Pikes Peak capturing the race and our team’s mission was to document three drivers as they each pursued their respective goals. JR Hildebrand was driving a Corvette ZR1X in an effort to capture the production car record, which he firmly grasped with a time of 9:30.104. Emelia Hartford brought her Corvette ZR1 to Colorado with the intention to become the fastest woman to climb the Pikes Peak on four wheels, ever. She achieved that goal with a time of 10:11.018. The last driver on my shot list was Jeff Zwart. I work with Jeff on Luftgekühlt projects where he wears a Creative Director hat. I get to work with him on everything from placing cars to painting wooden platforms and all the details in between. But, during this project, he wore the hat, or helmet rather, of a mentor, racer and Pikes Peak legend. I shot him coaching Emelia through her experiences on the bumpy road while piloting a 2019 Porsche GT2 RS Clubsport up the course himself. By the end of weekend, his 22nd time climbing the mountain, he walked away with a time only one second off of his personal best and 2nd in class overall. All while coaching the next generation as they conquer their own goals. What a privilege is was to capture the events unfold.
